Give your smile that amazing sparkle

Healthy habits of brushing twice daily and flossing regularly do help in keeping good oral hygiene. However, if you feel that your teeth still lack that amazing shine you’re not alone. When the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry asked people what they would like to change about their teeth the most common response was a whiter, brighter smile.

The common causes for yellowing of teeth are:
  • Wearing down of the outermost layer of teeth known as the enamel. This is normal as we age however faulty brushing techniques, very coarse foods in your diet, aerated beverages, betel nut chewing lead to a faster wearing down of the enamel layer.
  • Poor oral hygiene – Lack of regular flossing and brushing can lead to a build up of plaque deposits which will harden and become calculus. These deposits not only make the teeth look yellow but also increase the chances of gum diseases and tooth decay
  • Dietary factors – Certain foods and beverages tend to stain the teeth very easily. Foods such as turmeric, coffee, tea, aerated beverages, dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco chewing, smoking are a few that lead to rapid staining of the teeth. Restriction or cessation of such foods will help inhibit yellowing of teeth.
  • Medications – Medications like tetracyclines and doxycycline tend to stain teeth. Excessive fluoride intake during a young age may also lead to a condition known as fluorosis which also causes the teeth to turn yellowish brown.

The stains caused from the above various can be either extrinsic (on the outside of the tooth surface) or Intrinsic (inside the tooth structure). There are various methods to deal with such stains out of which Laser Teeth Whitening is one of them.

At Smile Design Mumbai we offer EPIC laser whitening treatment, the fastest teeth whitening treatment available today (15 minutes as against 1 hour for conventional teeth whitening treatment)

frequently asked questions

  • Is Laser Teeth Whitening right for my teeth?

Most definitely! The major advantage of laser whitening treatment over conventional teeth whitening treatments is the duration of time the whitening gel is placed on your teeth. Since it is applied only for a duration of 8-minute cycles, the treatment is gentler on your teeth and still provides excellent results (8 shades lighter). Due to its quick duration of action Laser Teeth Whitening is a great option for people with sensitive teeth.

  • Laser Whitening Treatment for the teeth on average will last for a duration of 6 months to 2 years. However, intake of foods that tend to stain teeth like turmeric, dark chocolate, aerated beverages, red wine and smoking will reduce the whitening effect.

  • The major advantage of Laser Whitening Treatment is that the whitening results are achieved in a short duration due to the action. One session of Laser Teeth Whitening consists of two 4-minute cycles which can lighten one’s tooth shade by 8 shades. However, certain teeth might not brighten up immediately following one session. In these cases, another session of Laser Teeth Whitening is suggested

  • The cost for a complete session of Laser Whitening treatment inclusive of an Aquacare clean-up will be INR 20,000.

  • This is a very common question we’re asked and the answer is always a resounding YES! However, the cause and the degree of discolouration of the teeth must first be determined so that we can provide you with the correct method for a brighter smile. For stains that are extrinsic (on the surface of the teeth), a regular teeth clean-up will help remove the stains and give a better appearance to your smile. Intrinsic stains (stains within the tooth structure) can be managed by means of laser treatment for teeth as the gel applied during the procedure penetrates the tooth structure and helps brighten the tooth. However, for intrinsic stains caused by medications like tetracycline, fluorosis or trauma the best way to brighten up your smile is by concealing them using other cosmetic options like Porcelain Veneers or Ceramic crowns.

  • Foods like turmeric, dark chocolate, ketchup, red wine and smoking can cause your teeth to turn yellow again. Rinsing your mouth thoroughly following consumption of these foods and cessation of smoking can help prolong the effects of the whitening treatment.
