Restore your smile
Amalgam or Silver fillings have been used for restoring teeth afflicted with decay. However, health concerns due to the presence of certain elements like mercury (most harmful) along with Zinc, Tin and Copper in the silver filling material has led to its decline in usage.
The material of choice for restoration of decayed teeth nowadays is composite also known as tooth-coloured fillings or white fillings. The filling material is versatile and can be used on either the front or back teeth. Availability of various composite filling shades blend right in with the natural tooth structure making it indistinguishable. The filings are usually placed by a Restorative Dentist or an Aesthetic Dentist and are a great choice for people who want their teeth to look more natural.

frequently asked questions
-
How long do dental fillings last?
No filling material can last forever. Composite dental filling materials have a life span of about 3 to 5 years, however there are some that even outlast a 10-year period. Regular dental check-ups are required for the maintenance of these fillings and allows the dentists to make ant small repairs if required without having to repeat the restoration. With good care and oral hygiene maintenance, these fillings last for a very long time.
-
Can I eat after a dental filling?
Yes, you absolutely can. The dental fillings that we place at Mumbai Smile Design are instantly cured and can be put into function immediately. The only concern would be if anaesthesia was administered before placing the filling, in which case you would have to wait for a period of 2 to 3 hours for the effects of the anaesthesia to wear off before you eat. Drinking liquids will be of no concern.
-
Are dental filling safe for your teeth?
Absolutely. Dental fillings are made of composite material and do not have any form of untoward reactions with the human system. These fillings are made with properties similar to natural teeth and do not cause untoward damage to the surrounding tooth structure.
-
How much does it cost for a dental filling?
The cost of a tooth-coloured dental filling ranges from 2000 to 6000 depending on the severity of the cavity.
-
What are different materials used for dental filling?
WE DO NOT DO SILVER FILLINGS
At Smile Design Mumbai we only use tooth coloured restorative material which is known as composite. This is a synthetic material that has a polymeric matrix with filler particles that closely mimic the tooth structure in both, looks and strength. -
Does dental filling require surgery?
In most cases no surgery is required. However, as we are dealing with cavities which require some amount of shaping of tooth structure, dental anaesthesia is a must. In certain cases where the cavity is extremely deep, the surrounding gum tissue may need to be altered. We do this by means of a soft tissue laser (is there a word missing here e.g. therapy/treatment) thereby reducing the amount of trauma to your gums as well as hastening the recovery process.
-
Will dental filling help my cavity related problems?
Absolutely. We would clean the tooth completely and free it from any form of tooth decay before restoring it with restorative composite material. This would ensure that the tooth is free from any issues related to tooth decay.

Is there any other way for me to prevent getting cavities?
Brushing twice a day and regular flossing would be the best way for you to maintain good oral hygiene. The application of a dental fluoride varnish is also an excellent way for you to keep your teeth decay free. This varnish application must be done twice a year for adults and is an effective means for protecting your teeth from cavities.
